Distinguished Speakers ForumSpring 2012 Speaker SeriesDSF is proud to either present or cosponer the following events! In addition, the Center for Leadership Development is offering PILOT leadership program credit http://leadership.uncc.edu/pilot for each event. Below is a list of speakers with a short description of each. All of the programs begin at 7 pm in McKnight Hall, are free to students, faculty, and the community, and include a reception afterwards. Please encourage your students to attend!
Febuary: Charlie Todd: Charlie Todd is the founder of Improv Everywhere, a fun prank service that encourages laughter and a little chaos. Come join the fun and listen to Charlie explain how he started a successful improv “business” and gets people to have fun and build community! Join us on Tuesday, February 21, 2012! ( PILOT Credit: Self-Development) Stephen Peters: DSF is proud cosponsor with the College of Education of Stephen Peters. Stephen Peters has been involved in the education field for over 20 years – as a teacher, principal, and director. He has helped schools make significant strides and earn national recognition. Come hear him discuss his experiences and how to provide effective education to disadvantaged youth on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 7pm. (PILOT Credit: Leadership and Ethics) March: Dr. Anita Hill “Speaking Truth into Power”: DSF is proud to be a cosponsor of this Multicultural Resource Center and Women’s Gender Studies event. Dr. Anita Hill gained public notoriety for accusing Supreme Court Justice nominee Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment, sparking a national debate on race, gender, and power. Twenty years later Dr. Hill is a professor at Brandeis University and continues to address issues of equality, fairness, and social justice. Join us on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, as Dr. Hill discusses the current state of gender, race and sexuality in the US. (Pilot Credit: Diversity) April: Carissa Phelps: Carissa Phelps is an attorney, author, and advocate; but she is also a survivor of domestic sex trafficking as a child. She has managed to turn a horrible experience into strength and courage to help other sexually exploited children through mentoring, global efforts and resources, and through documentaries and memoirs. Come hear her amazing story on Tuesday, April 3, 2012. (PILOT Credit: Leadership and Ethics) Ben Huh: Entrepreneur and journalist Ben Huh is the creator of popular blogs of “Fail Blog” and “I Can Has Cheezburger, ” and his latest company has been credited with bringing Internet memes to the mainstream and popularizing Internet culture. Join us on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 7 pm to hear about his business successes and how he tries to make the world happy for at least five minutes a day!
